In memory of Theophanis Christou

We at Cancerkin would like to express our great appreciation to the family of Theophanis Christou for their generosity in asking that donations be made to Cancerkin in his memory. Theophanis (Phanos, as he was known) died on 9 October 2010 and his funeral took place on 20 October 2010 at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of St Andrew, Kentish Town. Many members of his family and friends have received support from Cancerkin through difficult times.

London Triathlon 2010

The London Triathlon took place on 7th August 2010 with thousands of competitors taking part. One of them was Kathryn Powrie who completed the triathlon in a time of 1h59 (see below for pictures). La Bohème

Saturday 31st July 2010 saw 140 Cancerkin supporters descended upon the Soho Theatre London for our summer fundraiser event; a performance of Puccini’s La bohème. Wittily updated to London today, the young cast delivered a spectacularly powerful performance that was enjoyed by all. Indeed, opera was the flavour of the night with one lucky Juliet Wheldon taking home the evenings raffle prize - a 5 person box at the English National Opera (ENO) for an opera of her choosing. All in all the evening marked a new direction in Cancerkin fundraising.

All funds raised from the event will be put towards the establishment of a Young Women’s Support Group, where our young patients can exchange experiences, learn from each other and find reassurance and comfort from each other. We will also train volunteers to offer these patients specialist advice not just on medical matters but on the whole range of practical, emotional and family issues they face. To this end we would like to thank all of you who have contribution to help make this vision a reality whether it be by a donating or indeed attending the fundraising event itself. We are very grateful!

Kathryn Powrie fundraising for Cancerkin

Kathryn Powrie has set herself the challenge of completing the London Triathlon on 7th August 2010 to raise money for Cancerkin. She is also taking part in Cancerkin 7th Hyde Park Walk on 13th June 2010.

As the daughter of Mr Parbhoo, Kathryn has been involved in supporting Cancerkin from an early age. Prior to starting training, Kathryn could not swim a length freestyle and had not owned a bicycle since the age of ten - so the challenge is a real one!
